Abstract
A study of the lever arm changes of 33 total hip replacements of Charnley type, done from May 1972 to February 1974. revealed a significant change of ratio following the operation.
Three cases could not be measured because of poor axis of the preoperative radiogram.
The unilateral group A of II Charnley low friction series resulted in a preoperative ratio range from 1.30:1 to 2.10:1 with an average of 1.70:1
The postoperative ratio varied from 1.03 to 1.38 with an average of 1.26
Group B consisting of 6 bilateral Chaznley cases resulted in a preoprative ratio range from 1.39 to 1.81 with an average of 1.58. The postoperative ratio vazied from 1.01 to 1.46 with an average of 1.24.
Group C comprised ?cases of the assessment of low friction azthroplasty is old tnberculons hips. In these cases it was impossible to measure the preoperative ratio range because of old destruction and distortion of the femoral head. Therefore the normal side of the opposite., hip was traced for comparison. The healthy hip of the preoperative ratio range was from 1.36 to 1. ?0 with an average 1.56.
The postoperative ratio of the affeeted hip varied from 1.05 to 1.43 with an average of 1.24.
The size of the acetabular angle (Shazp~nd depth of the acetabulum is added as a preoperative guideace when performing surgery. ¢¥~~_
In addition 2 cases of a McBee-Farraz series are included comparison with this study.
